President Museveni has summoned NRM MPs in the 9th Parliament to a meeting at 5pm today.
The meeting, whose agenda State House officials did not mention, will take place at the Entebbe State House, about 40 kilometers south of Kampala.
Peter Ogwang, the vice chairperson of the NRM parliamentary caucus, however said they are likely to talk about the 2016/17 Fiscal Year budget.
“The President has called for a special caucus. We shall get the agenda from there [State House],” Mr Ogwang said during an interview;
“I expect it [the agenda] will be about the budget.”
Parliament is expected to scrutinise the different government departments and agencies budget proposals before the end of May.
According to the budget proposals seen by this newspaper, next financial year’s budget will total Shs21.261 trillion, down from Shs24 trillion.
The government plans to mobilise Shs14.489 trillion from domestic sources and get the balance from foreign development partners.
Half of the total resources mobilised will be go to recurrent expenditure and the rest to development.
Today’s meeting at State House comes just a day before newly elected NRM MPs meet at the National Leadership Training Institute in Kyankwanzi District in central Uganda, which is intended to educate the MPs about the party’s ideology so that they can defend it.
The retreat is also meant to help to build political and organisational cohesion and to get the newly elected representatives to appreciate their legislative role.
According to the NRM secretary general Ms Justine Lumumba, the other objective of the retreat is to enable the MPs to better appreciate the party’s manifesto and how to fulfill it through Parliament.
It is also meant to enable the newly elected MPs to understand personal finance, security issues, character in leadership and the MPs role in development as well as the role of parliamentary causes.
